Promotionsvorhaben: Discourse-managing and referential functions nominal classifiers in Amazonian languages
This doctoral project investigates the discourse functions of nominal classifiers in indigenous languages in Amazonia, with particular attention to their role in referentiality and reference management. While classifier systems found in other linguistic areas have been studied from typological and semantic perspectives, their contribution to discourse organization, especially in under-documented languages, remains insufficiently understood. This study will address this gap by examining how nominal classifiers participate in the introduction, tracking, and disambiguation of referents in natural discourse.
